Litely

Litely for iPhone first time user experience

The good bits:

  • Litely aims to provide iPhone photographers with a means to apply professional filters to their images. As such, the app wastes no time with an intro tour or other messaging. Instead, the first run through the app begins the same way it would begin for a seasoned user: by asking her to select a photo.
  • After the first time user selects a photo, she is deposited into the filtering and image editing portion of the app. At this point, she gets an initial cue as to what to do with the list of filter names (“Choose a preset”). As she moves along, she will trigger two more cues before getting free reign of the app. All the cues are simple and their illustrations reinforce the actual UI they reference.

To be improved:
The beginning of the FTUE works well, leading the user from a clear start point and through some helpful instructions . What isn’t as clear is the end point. After the last cue is dismissed, there was no assistance related to saving the photo’s adjustments or other next steps. I suggest finding a way to cap off this guided tour so that there is a clear (and reassuring) next step for new users.
