The good bits
- The app’s onboarding experience includes a free sample. Although a new user predominantly sees prompts to sign in or sign up, she can also tap “Browse TaskRabbit’s trending tasks” to see what kinds of categories the service supports. She can also start a draft request and see how many Taskers are available to help her, all before committing to an account. This not only illustrates TaskRabbit’s value proposition, but lets the new user see how much supply she can expect before committing to an account.
To be improved
- The “Browse TaskRabbit’s trending tasks” link on the start screen is very small and can easily be missed. TaskRabbit could consider shifting the visual hierarchy of the screen to give this option more prominence, or even show images of a few common categories. The free sample path is highly effective, and it should be given more prominence.
- The app could automatically detect the user’s zip code instead of asking her to type it manually, which would more quickly lend the app a personal focus.
